My Story:

I am happy to have this opportunity to introduce myself and tell you something about my story. My name is Victor and I have been a carpenter for over 40 years. I love working with and creating things out of wood. Over the years I created many residential and commercial products from some beautiful kitchens to desks to stair cases and pretty much anything you can image that is made out of wood in a home or office. A couple years ago when the economy started to change I found myself out of work and I ended up building exhibits for a while. That was some fun, everything was a new adventure I learned how to make things out of different products and include led (Vegas style lighting) for many of these projects. And as fun as the exhibit building market was fun it was unstable and I once again found myself out of work.
So what is old Wood Wizard to do??? Well over the years in addition to my full-time carpenter work I have been making wood puzzle furniture on the side for my family and a few friends. The idea came to me back years ago when I was 16. I had a relative that had a knock-down picnic table which was really convenient but it was rough and it didn't stay together very well. But I always thought the concept was great. It wasn't until years later when I started my own family that I came up with my concept of this idea. We are outdoors people who love to go to parks, camping and having lots of BBQ in our back yard. Having available seating was usually hard to come by in these places. Camping deep in the woods or even picnics at the park could be un-enjoyable when there was no place to set up at. So I created something that we could always take with us that was easy to transport and that is very durable, especially in unexpected weather. As I was now working in my trade as a carpenter I was looking to make them out of something that would work out of wood because I knew wood products are better than plastic, especially when they are made well, by a talented Wood Wizard. I remembered the picnic table from my teenage years and that became my inspiration for a durable, renewable wood table that would be easy to take with us everywhere and would hold up to years of my growing-family abuse. My picnic table was a hit! It was perfect, it held up to everything my kids and relatives or the weather could throw at it and it transported flat so we could take it anywhere we wanted to and set it up in a few minutes. If we were invited to someone’s house for an outdoor activity and they came up short on seating, we would have our picnic tables to help out. My furniture is so durable that my oldest son who has four kids has one of my original four foot tables that he keeps in the back of his SUV. They always have a place to sit and enjoy where ever they go in the great outdoors. When I ask him how it is holding up he says, "great!" He has no complaints and he’s not even interested in replacing it with a new one because it has all the memories he grew up with it and the new ones he has started. Although some of my other kids are now out on their own, they are now asking when they will get one.
You don’t have to be a great outdoor adventurer to enjoy this furniture; they are great for home use too. We have a couple of rockers on our porch, one large rocker and one large love-seat rocker that get a lot of attention and use. Sometimes we just sit out front in them watching the traffic go by when a neighbor will stop by or someone comes to say hello. Anyone who sees them can’t help but talk about them. There are a lot of options for furniture for your patio and deck and while they may be beautiful they don’t hold up like my furniture does. My wood furniture can be left outside all year long in snow and hot summers for years and years and never rust or fall apart. We even have used them in the house for large family functions, big dinners for example.
